Job Description We are seeking a computational biologist with expertise in driving forward biological discoveries to join Vertex. This position is part of a global Data and Computational Sciences team focused on developing the next generation of cell therapies for Type 1 Diabetes. You will collaborate closely with a research team dedicated to discovering and actualizing the next generation of cell and genetic therapies in diseases. You will design multi-omic studies, develop and apply analyses, and interpret the outcome, while having a critical impact on the development of transformative therapies, and the understanding of cell biology. You will play a key role in innovating, evaluating, and applying cutting-edge computational methods that will enable us to make rapid, data-driven decisions. Key Duties And Responsibilities Proactive collaboration with project teams, acting as the bioinformatics expert, to identify key project needs that can be addressed using bioinformatics contributions Evaluate therapeutic hypotheses via integration and quantitative analyses of internal & external multi-omics data sources including proteomic and sequencing data Partner with teams to plan studies that leverage multi-omic data to answer biological questions and define biological hypotheses to enable the next generation of cell therapies Perform sophisticated computational analyses of biological data, including proteomic data, through deep critical thinking, published findings and best practices from the field, strong statistics, and data science visualizations Distill complex analyses and scientific results into key take-home messages and recommendations for next steps to a broad audience Author study reports and white papers to support regulatory filings Partner with method development team members, identifying opportunities to improve usability, accuracy, and robustness of internal methods Knowledge And Skills Expertise in the computational analysis, visualization and interpretation of single and bulk-cell proteomic data Knowledge of the literature and field of multi-omic computational analysis of biological data Demonstrated ability to work across cross-functional teams, ensuring timely progress Superior communication skills, demonstrating confidence and versatility in presenting verbally to diverse audiences and writing technical documents Expertise with rapidly applying computational methods and bioinformatics tools to large-scale data Proficiency with R, python and high-performance computing systems; solid understanding of statistics A team-oriented growth mindset that welcomes feedback from others and supports other team members; a positive attitude that enthusiastically tackles and overcomes challenges Education And Experience PhD degree in computational biology, bioinformatics, genomics, systems biology, bioengineering, or a related field, with 0-3 years of productive, relevant industry or post-doctoral experience Master’s degree in computational biology, bioinformatics, human genetics, genomics, systems biology, bioengineering, or a related field, with 3+ years of productive, relevant industry experience Pay Range $109,400 - $164,100 Disclosure Statement The range provided is based on what we believe is a reasonable estimate for the base salary pay range for this job at the time of posting. This role is eligible for an annual bonus and annual equity awards. Some roles may also be eligible for overtime pay, in accordance with federal and state requirements. Actual base salary pay will be based on a number of factors, including skills, competencies, experience, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
