Description

Position Location: Norfolk, VA

Summary: Performs routine mechanical work on U.S. Navy shore facilities, waterborne vessels, surface ships and/or submarines. Tasks will be related to inspections, repairs, modernization and/or alterations.

Duties and Responsibilities include the following . Other duties may be assigned.
  • Proficient in the use of precision measurement equipment including scales, vernier calipers, micrometers and torque wrenches.
  • Experienced with use of torque wrench extensions and multipliers.
  • Proficient in the use of portable drill presses.
  • Perform disconnects and connections of mechanical joints.
  • Removes and installs various equipment using sound engineering practices.
  • Overhauls various pumps and valves.
  • Ability to trouble shoot and determine faulty equipment, determine cause of malfunction and determine best repair method.
  • Hydrostatically tests pumps, valves and piping.
  • Have the ability to read and follow technical manuals for various equipment.
  • Fills our objective quality evidence (OQE) forms.
  • May lead a small team of mechanics.
  • Performing duties as Firewatch.
  • Assists with cleaning up work area.
  • Employees may be required to travel to work to other locations.

Computer Skills: Must possess basic computer skills to enter data into different data basis.

Education/Experience:
  • Must have completed a formal related course of study in trade through either a community college, technical or trade school, military training, formal company training program or an apprentice program.
  • Must have 5-10 years of verifiable experience as a mechanic in an industrial environment (i.e., shipbuilding, ship repair or nuclear power plants).

Certificates and Licenses: Must be able to successfully pass a criminal background check and obtain and maintain a security badge for all military installations and civilian shipyards as needed.
