Engineering Manager | Cloud Platform Location: Belmont, CA (or remote PST) Employees : <50 Industry : Wireless services Position Reporting To: CTODynamic Bay Area startup is seeking a Cloud Platform Engineering Manager to lead a highly skilled team in building and scaling our cloud-based streaming location platform. This role is for a seasoned engineer turned technical leader who thrives in complex, distributed cloud environments and real-time data systems. You will be responsible for driving architectural strategies, team performance, and operational excellence across our high-throughput location data platform. You’ll collaborate cross-functionally to align the platform’s capabilities with business and user needs, ensuring a reliable, scalable, and secure infrastructure. Most Important Responsibilities :

• Lead and mentor a team of cloud engineers focused on core platform services and infrastructure.
• Define and execute the technical roadmap for real-time streaming location platform.
• Architect and optimize data ingestion pipelines – from raw signal input to location computation and storage.
• Oversee infrastructure deployment using Terraform and other Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) tools.
• Ensure platform scalability, reliability, and performance in production cloud environments.
• Collaborate with product, frontend, and hardware teams to integrate platform capabilities into customer-facing applications.
• Review design and code for quality, maintainability, and adherence to best practices.
• Drive CI/CD practices, monitoring strategies, and security protocols across the platform.
• Lead Agile team rituals, including spring planning, daily stand-ups, and retrospectives.
• Manage incident response processes, root cause analysis, and long-term reliability improvements.
• Develop and maintain clear technical documentation for team processes and system architecture.
• Foster a culture of continuous improvement, technical excellence, and professional development.

What you can bring to the table to impact this role, team, and organization:

• Proven experience managing or leading high-performing engineering teams in platform or infrastructure domains.
• Strong technical background with hands-on experience building and operating distributed backend systems.
• Proficiency with AWS services (ECS, EKS, Lambda, Kinesis, IAM, etc.)
• Solid understanding of infrastructure-as-code practices using tools like Terraform.
• Competence in reading and reviewing production-level Python code.
• Deep understanding of scalable architecture for real-time or high-throughput data systems.
• Familiarity with Agile methodologies and engineering planning cycles.

• Experience supporting mission-critical systems in cloud environments.

Qualifications:

• Experience with streamlining data technologies (Kinesis, Apache Flink).
• Familiarity with Node.JS frameworks and full-stack architecture.
• Experience with data services such as DynamoDB or RDS/PostgreSQL.
• Knowledge of DevOps monitoring tools like Prometheus, Grafana, or similar.
• Understanding of AWS messaging systems such as SNS and SQS.
• Background in IoT platforms or hardware-integrated systems.
• Familiarity with hybrid architectures that span edge and cloud deployments.
• Prior involvement in technical due diligence or architectural reviews.
